Vridhi Sharma is a B.A. (Hons) Sociology student of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi who has always believed in action rather than words. She has started MentorMitr, achieved her goals and established herself as a doer.

What was your role? Briefly list the responsibilities associated with it.
Content development in initial stages for the product and strategies for communication by laying down Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), backed by qualitative research and ideation.
Formulated formats used to precisely track the different needs of different individuals with a solution-oriented approach.
Identified and contacted prospective customers.
Facilitated Mentor Mitr’s Beta Launch.
Developed and strategized content amplified across several social media/networking platforms.
Generated strategic analysis of operational functions such as sales and marketing.
What’s it like to juggle between leadership roles and academics? Pen down the challenges you faced.
Academics are more analytical in nature. However, it creates room for exploration, for inquiry and lastly, for the enhancement of one’s own intellect and personality. It’s the application of the knowledge learnt and disseminated in the most profuse manner. On the contrary, leadership is about using all the knowledge that one has gained; the skills that are duly recognized and polished and lastly, the energies that channel one’s drive to take the responsibility of delivering definitive outcomes. My terms of expression have enhanced through the means of leadership, while an academic foundation has laid grounds for the same. So, in a true sense, juggling both the responsibilities have required a great deal of hard work; yet, in totality, the desired outcome of achievement has always been created.
What are the top learnings, skills and values that you acquired here?
The very aspect of the outcome-generation has been acquired during my time of working as a Co-Founder. I have learnt to convert my academics to create a product through the very means of research-oriented approaches that I’d picked during the course of academic life. Now, I can confidently channel my abilities to customize a product while amplifying it across several platforms. Another skill that I have picked is of robust team-building.
Do you feel your current role fills you with pride and gratitude? Illustrate how the experience gained will help you going forward.
More often than not, it certainly does. However, I consistently find myself chiselling my roles and responsibilities whilst I work on the aspect of skill development. I’m most definitely, grateful for the opportunities that have been availed to me since I also believe that the pneumatic qualities of humility, passion along with the courage that I have gained to express myself have altogether strengthened my drive to consistently move forward. My orientation has shifted from myself to guiding and monitoring my others (i.e. the team) in terms of providing a vision, organizing and implementing it efficaciously and consequently, generating an outcome. It gives me immense joy and pride to inspire and empower a group of people, whilst accomplishing the endeavour of encouraging participative leadership.
As when we talk about leadership we have a whole team with us. How do you persuade others to accept your ideas/ways?
Coming up with an idea, and communicating the idea to a set of people is how the process begins. Followed by a great deal of engagement, and the acceptance of criticism, whether constructive or not is what translates the idea into reality. Moreover, I ask coherent questions in regards to what people expect whilst establishing a foundation for a harmonious resolution since I’m fairly open to accommodating alternative thoughts processes.
What is your message to students, aspiring the same or a similar role to do?
Take your lead head-on, and don’t fear criticism. Choose your words wisely with people, and constantly evaluate your own ideas whilst levelling them up to others’ terms, without commanding direct demands. Unity is what builds a team; hence, resonating with a similar motive is a factor the definitely drives people forward, that too, should be backed by consistent efforts and hard work. And lastly, be as accommodative as possible so as to ensure that a concrete idea with a harmonious resolution is sought.
How can we (Friends, Family, YI Fraternity) encourage young students such as yourself to engage with co-curricular or extra-curricular activities?
Allow young students the opportunity to try out new things, and encourage them regardless of the outcome. This is a rudimentary drive that must be inculcated across all domains so as to enable students, as young leaders, to grow. Moreover, students should also be allowed to respond in a manner that suits them by fostering a collaborative setting. So, even if they jump from one activity to another, it is okay. Because true potential can only be unleashed when there is the motive and drive to move forward.
